This day is about working for a more just, compassionate, and sustainable world, while cultivating the wisdom that supports and deepens this work. Everyone who is trying to bring about needed social and institutional change is also challenged by trying to maintain balance, compassion and hope.

Charlie Halpern, is one of America’s most distinguished public interest advocates and social innovators. Sharon Salzberg is one of America’s best known meditation teachers, whose work focuses on mindful awareness practice and on the profound development of lovingkindness and compassion.

In dialogue with Sharon, Charlie will draw on themes developed in his new book, Making Waves and Riding the Currents: Activism and the Practice of Wisdom, and will share experiences and learnings from his journey as public interest attorney, activist and social entrepreneur.

The day will include guided periods of sitting and walking meditation, as well as discourse, dialogue, and questions and answers. There will be book sales and signing at the end of the day.

*Proceeds from the day will be shared by NYI, IMS and Center for Contemplative Mind in Society
